RFID-Enabled Building Information Modeling (BIM) Platform for Prefabrication Housing Production in Hong Kong
A collaborative team of HKU, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Housing Authority has developed an RFID-enabled service-oriented BIM (Building Information Modeling) platform to enhance prefabrication housing production in Hong Kong.
A collaborative team of HKU, Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Hong Kong Housing Authority has developed an RFID-enabled service-oriented BIM (Building Information Modeling) platform to enhance prefabrication housing production in Hong Kong. Funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund, this project is led by Professor George Huang of the HKU Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and team members include Professor Thomas Ng of the HKU Department of Civil Engineering, Dr Wilson Lu of the HKU Department of Real Estate and Construction, and Professor Geoffrey Shen of PolyU. The integrated platform could provide seamless communication and coordination among multiple stakeholders through improved information interoperability between processes; more efficient cross-border prefabrication logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) through improving real-time information visibility and traceability; and seamless communication and coordination between the logistics and on-site assembly to enable a Just-In-Time (JIT) housing production.
