HKU Excellence Awards 2024
The HKU Excellence Awards Presentation Ceremony for 2024, held on 27 March 2025, celebrates the exceptional contributions of its scholars to community well-being in teaching and research, as well as their significant contributions to knowledge exchange between the University and society.
During the ceremony, seven categories of awards were presented, including the University Distinguished Teaching Award, Outstanding Teaching Award, Early Career Teaching Award, Outstanding Researcher Award, Outstanding Young Researcher Award, Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award and Knowledge Exchange Excellence Award.
These prestigious awards not only highlight HKU’s unwavering commitment to knowledge exchange but also exemplify its crucial role in tackling societal challenges. Through impactful research and community engagement, these initiatives inspire hope and drive significant change, underscoring the incredible power of collaboration and innovation in enhancing lives.
Two groups recognised for their impactful initiatives in the Knowledge Exchange Excellence Awards are led by Prof. Michael Ni from the School of Public Health and Prof. Terry Lum from the Department of Social Work and Social Administration.
A Health and Wellbeing Barometer for Hong Kong
The first awardee is a team from the School of Public Health, led by Professor Michael NI Yuxuan. Their project, “A Health and Wellbeing Barometer for Hong Kong: Translational Impact Attained over a Decade and Counting,” has significantly influenced public policy, leading to the implementation of health promotion strategies and enhanced mental health services. The team's rigorous research provides vital data that informs government initiatives, ultimately transforming policies aimed at improving the overall health landscape of Hong Kong.
JC JoyAge – Holistic Support Project for Elderly Mental Wellness
The second recipient is a distinguished group from the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, led by Professor Terry Lum Yat Sang. Their innovative project, “JC JoyAge – Holistic Support Project for Elderly Mental Wellness,” features cutting-edge methods, including community-based interventions and the integration of advanced technology. By utilising mobile apps for mental health monitoring and creating outreach programmes that connect the elderly with essential social services, this team is steadfastly promoting proactive mental wellness and fostering a supportive community for our aging population.
