'Fighting High-Tech Crime in Cyberspace' project.
Abstract:
Cyber criminals are using latest technologies in committing crime in the cyberspace, including cloud-based storage cyberlocker for sharing illegal copy-righted materials, social media to distribute illegal information, peer-to-peer network to share contraband videos, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack against public IT infrastructure, etc. The speaker and his team at the Center for Information Security and Cryptography (CISC) of HKU has focused on developing technologies and tools to protect against cyberspace crime in Hong Kong together with local law enforcement agencies. In this talk, the speaker will present the latest technologies and research developed by CISC to combat cybercrime and how such technologies are deployed for real-life usage through various knowledge exchange activities.
The speaker and CISC work closely with law enforcement agencies including the Electronic Crime Investigation Center under the Customs and Excise Department of the HKSAR Government to develop technologies and tools to fight against cyberspace crime in Hong Kong. The speaker architected the cybercrime research roadmap for CISC and supervised numerous research postgraduate students on research in cybercrime investigation, forensics, cybercriminal profiling and cybercrime modelling. CISC has been active in cybercrime research since 2005, and deployed the first cybercrime monitoring system "Lineament I" in 2007.
